Welcome to the fourth edition of my This and That series. Today, I’ll be comparing two “healthy” bars I tried out – the Brookie from Go! Salads and the Pure Fit Peanut Butter and Chocolate Bar from Healthy Options. I’m not much of a health buff myself, but I tried these out of curiosity. I purchased both at UP Town Center, a mall I usually frequent.
I’ve been aware of the Brookie by Go! Salads thanks to a former colleague, who was a fan of the place’s healthy picks. Meanwhile, choosing the Pure Fit protein bar at Healthy Options wasn’t easy as the place also sold different-flavored bars.
So without further ado, here’s my take on both.
Pure Fit Peanut Butter and Chocolate Bar: Nutty and gritty
I can say the Pure Fit Peanut Butter and Chocolate Bar from Healthy Options is Chips Ahoy in bar form. It makes use of actual chocolate chips and soy crisps, which I initially mistook for either cereal or oatmeal, to provide a light crunch. The peanut butter is gritty, earthy and nutty – yet the light crunch from the soy crisps tones it down. The overarching peanut butter taste is well-distributed throughout the bar’s length.
Brookie: Combining the best of both worlds in a healthy bar
The Brookie from Go! Salads, meanwhile, combines the best of two desserts with its cookie top and brownie bottom. It uses cacao nibs, which provide the occasional crunch, to stand in for real chocolate. It also uses coconut sugar as a sweetener – a healthier alternative to the usual table sugar! For something that called a brookie, the moist, chewy and resilient brownie layer contributes the most to its overall flavor.
So, will it be this Pure Fit Peanut Butter and Chocolate Bar from Healthy Options, or that Brookie from Go! Salads?
And my verdict is…a TIE! Both are good, both are healthy, albeit the Brookie is affordable. However, I wouldn’t usually focus on the price if I’m looking for something to splurge on, as I did with these two.
That wraps up my post for now. Until the next review, bon appetit and stay safe!
Now I’m hungry 😂😂😂
